Established in 1997, The L.I.F.E. Center for Independent Living is a non-profit agency that stands committed to a single goal: empowering seniors and individuals with disabilities to remain independent in their communities.
The L.I.F.E. Center proudly serves consumers eligible to receive CDS (Consumer-Directed Services) and In-Home/Agency Model care including home-based personal care, respite, and nursing services in coordination with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Over half of the office staff employed by L.I.F.E., Inc. have disabilities themselves and are able to advocate for improvements, changes, and projects within the community in order to better serve their clientele. In addition to being a vendor for state-funded Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), L.I.F.E. – also known as “Living Independently For Everyone” – can assist with housing modifications, building ramps, and loaning out necessary medical equipment/devices to overall improve the consumer’s ability to stay independent at home (often as an alternative to skilled nursing facility placement).
Additionally, the Employment Network at L.I.F.E. helps adults age 18-64 who receive SSI or SSDI benefits find employment and work towards transitioning back into the workforce (with careful consideration of their earnings as not to disqualify them from their current benefits).
The friendly and knowledgeable L.I.F.E. Center staff can also assist consumers with Medicare and Medicaid eligibility questions, making it easy to navigate the application and approval process for those in need.
